Shoulder Tattoo Designs for Women

Shoulder Tattoo Designs used to be for men. It would be hard to find a shoulder tattoo on a woman 15 years ago. Women used to stick to the same common area – a wrist, and ankle – but today women are busting out and with that, pushing the boundaries.

And with that comes more adventurous and unique tattoo placement.

As, shoulder tattoos are getting more and more popular so do the designs get more creative and adventurous. There is a wide variety of
shoulder
tattoo designs that you can choose from. These types of tattoos can be easily hidden and revealed only when you want to.

Shoulder tattoos can either be on teh back, near or on the shoulder blade,  or on upper arm. This is a bold place for a tattoo and shows that you have confidence, and are not afraid to be seen.

While most women try for “sweet” tattoos, stuck in a gender mind set, we love the audacity of this woman’s choice, going for a ferocious dragon. Yah, the energy.

But cascading cherry blossoms can be equally striking on a shoulder.

Tribal tattoos work very well too as shoulder tatto designs for women.

Color Tattoo

2 Jul 2009 In: Tattoo Design

Here’s a full color tattoo that works beautifully.

Dia de los Muertos, Mariachi

Some people prefer monotone tattoos. Some people like them all out. This pretty full color tattoo is gorgeous. The Mexican Day of the Dead theme is played beautifully, and the tattoo picks up the style and colors of Mexican traditional arts.

Remember, tattoo regret is very common. That’s why a lifetime memberships with a Tattoo gallery is a great idea – there’s no rushing when it comes to choosing your tattoo.

Full Back Tattoo – becuase it’s summer, and you get to show it off.

Full Back Tattoo

A few things that you should consider before getting your full back tattoo are:

  • the time it will take to get your tattoo finished and competed. Larger tattoos take longer to do. It will take  many sessions  to complete a full back tattoo design and each session will depend on how long you can withstand the needle, and ho w long the tattoo artist can work at one time.
  • Like your tattoo artist. You will be spending lots of time together.
  • the cost. Larger tattoos cost more money. A back is a larger area.

For a tattoo artist, the back is considered prime real estate.

Always plan ahead and remember tattoos are for life. So take your time and do some research. A lifetime memberships with a Tattoo gallery is a great idea – you can download as many tattoos as you want. Try doing a henna tattoo of your tattoo pattern  and see how you like it on your back.

This back is getting a tattoo montage treatment. Not everything is of the same style…yet should work because the lines are of the same thickness and proportion. If you don’t plan ahead and keep adding tattoos to your back, it can end up looking junky and cheap. Try limiting the colors so that there is cohesion, and match the style. For example, only add Chinese styles, or tribal. Try to make sure your proportions make sense too – don’t make tweety bird the same size as a mountain.

Word Tattoos

2 Jun 2009 In: Tattoo Design, Word Tattoos

Maifest: Sailor's Tattoo

Word tattoos are very popular. Perhaps because of Angelina Jolie, who sports many word only tattoos, including a  Buddhist Pali incantation, written in Khmer script, they are more popular than ever.

While most tattoos are of images and or symbols, word tattoos are gaining popularity because you can express yourself very clearly.

Now, what words will you tattoo on yourself?

Remember tattoos are forever, so think of  yourself in your 70s with your tattoo…will it still be relative to you if you have a teenage slogan written on your arm? You loved the Spice Girls 8 years ago, do you still love them? Will you always want your first wife’s name tattooed on your body?

One suggestion for longevity is to try for famous or classic quotes. Poems, literature,  sonnets.

Ancient scripts of wise people are a good choice. If we are still reciting them, their wisdom is lasting.

Songs lyrics can work. Folk songs are a nice way to ground yourself to your culture.

Bits from speeches. Famous catch phrases.

If you are thinking of getting a word tattoo, there are many other things you must decide other than just words. You can think about choosing fonts, and typography. The above tattoo has a very nice script font, that makes it look handwritten. If you choose an old style font, it can look printed, more ominous.

How about writing in other languages? Ancient scripts or languages will assure that few will be able to read it.
Where will you place your tattoo? Think about how long your quote will be. then think about the best place to put it. Will it require a large space for the tattoo? Or a small one. How visible do you want it to be, or do you want it to be more secretive and mysterious.

You can also mix words with images in your tattoos.

Have fun and let us know what phrase you think will make the best word tattoo.

Geisha Tattoo

9 May 2009 In: Tattoo Design

Geisha tattoo In Progress

This beautiful Geisha tattoo is still in progress.

The calf is a great place for the geisha tattoo as it’s a tall tattoo. It’s quite unusual.

The Geisha has long been a symbol of mystery. The Japanese word geisha means ‘person of the arts’ and a true geisha is said to be a living work of art.

A true geisha went through years of training and the training was expensive. Poor families were sometimes approached by geisha houses offering money for young girls. The young apprentices would learn to play traditional musical instruments, traditional dances, sing, calligraphy, poetry, tea ceremonies, flower arrangement and the correct serving of drinks were among her many skills.

Geisha tattoos
are not popular in Japan as they are seen as archaic.
